Rimu Class Blog Contest

Hey everyone, I had an idea that we could do a rimu class blog contest, to see who can get the most views and/or comments on our blogs, in the time limit of the week we have when other school visits them.

Make your blog look interesting so people want to visit it.

If anyone wants to do it then they can go down on the left hand side of my blog, at the bottom, and fill out the contact form with a message saying that you want in.

The Rules:

1. You must get the total views on Monday before school starts and write on a piece of paper with your name at the top to give to me, so that everyone has a fair starting score.

2. You CAN NOT COUNT YOURSELF! When you visit your blog and you are not signed in keep a piece of paper that that you can write down YOUR visits. These will be taken off your total score  at the end of the week.

3. Every day you need a buddy (of different gender) to sign at the end of each day that you have so many views and comments by OTHER schools.

4. We may/may not have a point system running, If people what to do this contest then we can have a vote.

Anything more that needs to be clarfied come and see me.
Ps: There might be a small prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

The Spanish Flu

In 1918-1920 there spread a deadly influenza pandemic.
It infected over 500 Million people across the world, including remote pacific islands and the artic.
It killed between 50-100 Million people which killed 3-5% of the worlds population at that time.
(It killed 5-10 more times many people that the WW1 did.)

The deadly disease triggered mainly kids, young adults and old aged people.
It was spread at the end of WW1, when solders were coming back home from fighting.
This spread the disease to the whole world.
(The total death toll in New Zealand for the Spanish Flu was thought to be over 8,600.
The death toll for New Zealand in the WW1 was 16,697)

The Spanish flu was everywhere but newspaper reports were not allowed to report accurately on the illness or amount of people dead in the country that were involved in the WW1.
So people would not freak out and think that their solders were dieing and that leads to them losing the war.
But because Spain was a neutral country and didn't go to war their reports were accurate and seemed much higher that the other countrys.
This made people think that Spain was the most hard hit place, therefor the nickname for this disease was called the Spanish flu.

What I have done to be a healthy individual.

The schools focus this year is to become H.E.R.O's - Healthy Individual's/ Enthusiastic Learner's/ Responsible Cistern's/ and Open-minded explores!
Each term will be a new letter.
This terms letter is H/ (Healthy Individual's.)

One way I have shown that I have been a healthy individual, is by running every morning.
This term Miss Blair- (our teacher) has taken us running every morning to keep up our fitness and also practicing for the cross country, which is next term.

Another way that I have been healthy is by partaking in read and feed, this is a program set up for students to eat healthy food- fruit or veges, while reading a book silently or the teacher reading to you.
We also have set up a food bowl in our class which provides the students and teachers with apples or carrots.

Last year the school was introduced to fonterra milk, each day the class is allowed to have one 300 g carton of milk, this builds strong musicals and enables us to learn better with the extra boost of protein!

If it is raining outside, our class dose and inside fitness activity; (Which everyone loves!)
This involves following the character on the board and listening to the instructions. This means that we are able to accomplish our goal to being a Healthy Individual; even if it is bad weather.

lastly, just simply having a 6/7 hours sleep or more, will help you focus on school and enjoy learning with your teacher and friends.

These are things that I have achieved to be a Healthy Individual this term!
