My School Time Table Week 2

This term Rimu Class are learning to manage our time and work.
Below is my time table for Week 2 of this Term.
I have planned what I am doing this week using the box that has what we need to in it.
At the end of each day we have to reflect on how we went sticking to it and completing the work that we set to do.
To do this we colour code each slot green orange and red.
Do you think this is a good idea?
What else can I do to become a more self managing learner?

100 Word Challenge Week 1

Every week my class are participating in the 100 Word Challenge.
We have to write a story between 90-110 words based on the prompt that is given to us every week.
This week the prompt was describing what kind of a world we would step into if we went through a door that was at the end of a stairway going up to the sky.
Here is my first 100wc:

The magnificent white marble staircase sat in an ever turning spiral; unaware, unknown.
It pulled at me, urging me to glide up and step through it’s wonderful mirrored arch.
So I did.

Where I came through was on a tall hill overlooking the strange little kingdom I had entered.
Everyone had their own house, and own piece of land.
But every little person was golden, like little statues moving around.

Most of me wanted to go back, but a part of me felt like I belonged down there with them.

True or False... ? Advertising Mayhem

Yesterday on the 2nd of May, Rimu Class were challenged to write either a true or false story about an event that happened during the last school holidays.
Your job is to try to guess the right answer, whether that would be true of false.
Have a read of my story, and in the comment box tell me which you think it is and WHY!
Enjoy!

Over the last fourteen days my family and I drove to Northlands Mall around seven times.
Four of the visits were to find specific things, another was to watch a movie, and the other three were simply because we could.

On the 5th day of the fourteen days, on a simply because we could visit, we couldn’t believe how many people were there!
I suppose it was the school holidays, but that didn’t mean everyone had to come!

As we walked among the many people we soon past Briscoes, and it looked like almost everyone was in there!
They were having another sale with 60% off specialized tea towels and toilet plungers!
I couldn’t believe it… I mean why on earth would Briscoes advertise those two things out of everything else?
Even though most of the other kitchen and bathroom accessories were on sale too!

It seemed a bit odd, but not as odd as what we saw next!
We slowly made our way to the end of the mall where we saw The Warehouse advertising there imported duct tape and fishbowls!
This seemed a little bit hard to believe!

Our just because we could visit, had turned into a advertising mayhem visit!
I suppose it’s not something you see everyday; but man it was funny!

Surfing at Sumner Christchurch NZ Senses Poem

I can see the swell of the great white waves rising and plummeting back down to earth.
I can see the rubbery clumps of kelp, and earnestly try to avoid them.

I can hear the screams of joy and terror as my friends try and succeed.
I can hear the mocking voice of the seagulls, as they desperately trying to snatch food.

I can taste the ever growing sting of the foul salt water in my mouth.
I can taste the grit and sand grinding between my teeth, as I take a bite into my sandwich.

I can smell that indescribable, familiar scent of the sea as soon as I near it.
I can smell the putrid pong of the immense amount of kelp washed up on shore.

I can feel the unexpected, sudden slimy feeling of my feet crumpling a piece of seaweed.
I can touch the deck of my board, as that feeling of thrill and excitement begins.

William Pike Challenge Award - Dinner Night

William Pike Challenge Award Night- Recount:

On the 18th of March 2016, the year 7 & 8s of Rimu Class gathered into the extremely crowded staffroom. We were waiting there because all of our parents were in the classroom,  listening to Miss Blair talk about how this year is going to run.

While they were talking, us students were making sure that tea was ready and everything was in place.
We had to creep into the class quietly so that the adults didn’t notice us, but I think they heard us anyway!
(Parents always hear you!)

Tea was awesome!
All of our hard work that we put into making it payed off!
We prepared it as sort of a buffet, and there was more than enough food!
The best things there were the spider drinks!
Ice cream and fizzy! YUM!!!

Afterwards all of us gathered into the Whare hui or Assembly Hall, and listened to William Pikes inspirational story, about how he lost his leg on a mountain expedition with his friend, survived, and still thinks and lives by his saying “all pasion no limits.”
He showed us pictures on a slide to accompany his speech.
Some were of his leg that got crushed from rocks and depre when the mountain he was climbing exploded. They were gross!

He also told us about the birth of The William Pike Challenge, and how the number of schools have grown from 4 to 60!

By the time it was all over it was like 8:30 pm.
We helped pack up a little bit and them went home!
It was a great night!

‘Wonder’ - First Person Point of View-Essay:

Last week my class was given the task of writing a short essay, explaining about how the book by R.J Palacio, ‘Wonder’ was written.  We had to use examples from the book and also our own opinions. We are reading this book as a class, and all enjoy it!
Here is my short essay:

My thoughts are that R.J. Palacio has used first person writing the book Wonder, but sometimes August has related scenes in third person.

As evidence to back this statement, throughout the book examples like this are written:
“I think about it a lot” I said. Pg 128
Notice how the words ‘I’ and ‘think’ are used, not he and  thought.
This shows that he is doing it.

Furthermore, if we look at other parts of the book, August tells us about things that have happened. Like when August searched for the phrase his dad used when he referred to him as ‘a lamb to the slaughter’. He says:
‘I googled it last night.’ Chp 16, Pg 43
Not googling, but he ‘googled’.
This shows that he had done it.

So this is why I believe that R.J. Palacio has written the book wonder in first person, along with third.
