100 WC 'Rush Out The Door"

"The bus will be here soon kids," called Mum "make sure you are out of you Pajamas!" 

Ubin, and Jake were rushing to get their bags ready for school, their room was a mess, Jake was rushing to find his socks and spelling book. 

Mum's head ached as she was rushing around the kitchen, using the last scraps of vegemite on the the toast that was burning, and she was rushingly ripping through the knots in Ubin's hair. 

Then the bus honked!

They rushed out of the door with whatever they had on, grabbing their lunch from Mum on the way out as she kissed them goodbye.

The usual morning!

Genius Hour Project

This is my Genius Hour Project that was assigned to us one term ago. My topic is about Venice in Italy. I presented it on Powtoon, and it has photos of me when I traveled there about 1 month and a half ago. I chose this topic because Venice has a lot of history, and is a very unique city. Also because I got to experience what it was like in person.

Rei Hamon: New Zealand Pointillism Artist

(The one of the most successful artists in history, but also one of the least known.)

I Chose Rei Hamon because his life story is amazing, and how he came about to paint is really interesting!

If you read on, you will find about the life story of a hard working artist ,

who went through many challenges to get where where he was in the 1970's.

Francis Rei Paul Hamon, was born in Auckland December, 17, 1919.

As a boy, he grew up in Gisborne in the North Island.

He was used to working hard, helping his parents to enlarge their their small dairy farm.

From a young age, he went into the Urewera area to split posts in the bush for sheep stations.

For over forty years, Rei and his family, lived, worked in the bush.

In 1965, Rei was hurt in a farm accident, with serious back injury that almost left him paralysed.

Unable to do any more hard labour, he and his family were broke. They did not know what to do.

One day his daughter left her ballpoint pen and he pad at home. 

Rei found it, and started to draw, something that he had never done since early primary school!

He was embarrassed by his first drawings, and hid them, but his wife found them and took them to a local photographer. The photographer was impressed with their quality, and took them to

the director of a leading art gallery in Auckland, who immediately 

wanted to stage a show of Rei’s work.

That is how eventually with much practice, he developed a unique art style called pointillism.

He was a popular artist in the 1970s and 1980s, his drawings captured the

native New Zealand bush. He drew from the giant Kauri tree, to the tiny Manuka flower.

Sadly Rei died in 2008, but his artwork, and his life story still; and will continue to inspires other.

Improve My Long Jump

I am practicing for athletics day on Friday.

Our teacher has videoed us so we can analyze our own jumps.

 We have picked up some tips when watched a video of what a professional long jump looks like. 

This is what the long jump process is:

Run up: Constancy, and to be able to stay on the same place every time you run down.

Your speed needs to be really fast all the way down so that you get momentum when you jump.

Take off: There is a bit before you jump where your hips sink, use that to push off and with your free knee, and lift it up to get high in the air.

Flight: There are different types of flight. One when you push off sail through the air, and when you move your feet like a running motion through the air

Landing: At the end push your legs in front of you, and then pull your body through the air towards your feet.

100 Word Challenge ...it felt like...

The hills looked taller, and more darker in the shadows.

The sea was more rough and greener than yesterday, and the wind; it felt like whips, lashing out and striking my cheeks until they became beetroot red. Behind me, the poles that were holding down our tent that we were camping in, were almost coming out of the ground.

Little sand storms were forming on the beach, but it was deserted, infact no one else's tent was even in the camp ground.

Suddenly the air got extremely hot, and turning towards the hills, I realised why we were alone...
